FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
At what point can you light a fire in the stove?
The stove may only be lit when there is so much water in the basin that the upper passage of the stove is well under water, at least 10cm of water above the top edge of the opening.
At what point can the water be removed from the pool?
The water in the basin may only be removed when there are no more hot embers in the stove and the stove has cooled down. If the water is drained too early while the stove is still hot, it may break the stove. It is a good idea to take such a step that when draining the basin, you also remove the plug from the stove and drain the stove. This will prevent the risk of water remaining in the stove in winter and breaking the stove if it freezes. Regularly draining the stove and running water through the stove keeps the stove's water tank clean.
How much electricity does an electrically heated hot tub consume?
There are many different factors here, of course less electricity is consumed in summer than in winter. Due to recent large fluctuations in electricity prices, we are now reporting the readings in kilowatts, from which you can easily calculate the current price. The euro amounts shown are what we currently pay for electricity. The consumption figures have been measured in such a way that the pool has been kept at a constant temperature of 37 degrees.
A 4-person hot tub consumes 3-5 kWh per day in the summer, 8-10 kWh per day in the winter, an average of 6-7 kWh per day over the entire year. This figure includes keeping the pool warm, but consumption increases depending on how much the pool is used. Depending on the price of electricity, we have reached a daily price of less than one euro.
The first heating from 6 degrees to 37 degrees costs about 36 kWh, or about 4.5 euros.
An 8-person hot tub consumes 4-6 kWh per day in summer, 10-12 kWh per day in winter, an average of 8-9 kWh per day over the entire year. This figure includes keeping the pool warm, and consumption increases depending on how much the pool is used. Depending on the price of electricity, we have reached a daily price of 1 - 1.2 euros. The first heating from 6 degrees to 37 degrees costs about 58 kWh, or about 7.2 euros.
What size heater should I choose for an electrically heated, always-warm hot tub?
First you need to find out if there is power available. A 3 kW heater runs on light current, but requires at least a 16A fuse.
The 6 kW and 9 kW versions require power. The 6 kW heater requires at least 3 x 10A fuses and the 9 kW heater requires at least 3 x 16A fuses.
A 3 kW heater is usually sufficient, it does not matter how often the hot tub is used, but how long you are in the hot tub at a time. When the hot tub lid is opened, the heat starts to evaporate, in summer a 3 kW heater is enough to keep the temperature at 37 degrees throughout the bath. In winter use, the power of a 3 kW heater is not quite enough, and the pool slowly starts to cool down. The drop in temperature depends on the temperature and wind, but it is usually not very fast. Usually the temperature drops by about 1-2 degrees per hour. When the lid is closed, the temperature rises back up. 6 kW and 9 kW heaters are sufficient to keep the pool warm all year round, and the temperature does not drop even in winter. The biggest difference between 6 kW and 9 kW heaters is the initial heating time of the hot tub.
The size of the heater affects the initial heating time of the hot tub as follows. The heating times for hot tubs with different heaters from 6 degrees to 37 degrees are shown below:
4-person hot tub with 3 kW heater for about 10 hours
4-person hot tub with 6 kW heater for about 5 hours
4-person hot tub with 9 kW heater for approximately 3.5 hours
8-person hot tub with 3 kW heater for approximately 16 hours
8-person hot tub with 6 kW heater for about 8 hours
8-person hot tub with 9 kW heater for approximately 5.5 hours
The initial heating time has very little significance in the use of a hot tub, because the same water can be used for several months. Mainly in rental use or similar, the significance is greater when the water is changed frequently. Of course, the maintenance temperature can be kept lower to save electricity and with a larger heater the hot tub will be warm again faster.
The size of the heater does not affect the hot tub's electricity consumption in kilowatt hours; a larger heater is on for less time per day.
How do I connect the electrics of an always-warm hot tub?
Instructions at this link. There is a plug ready inside the hot tub's equipment box, you just need to drill a hole in the box for the cable and connect the plug to the end of the cable. Instructions are in this link.
The power cable must have a disconnection option, i.e. a safety switch or a removable plug outside the hot tub.
The 3 kW version has a light current plug, the 6 kW and 9 kW versions have a power current plug.
A licensed electrician must always be used for electrical installations.
Do I have to keep the hot tub at 37 degrees?
The temperature of the hot tub can be freely adjusted between 0-45 degrees, so you can even use it as a cold pool. Of course, there is no cooling function, so if you adjust the temperature down just right, the hot tub will slowly follow the outside temperature.
How often should the water in a hot tub be changed?
The water change interval depends a lot on the user. In principle, the same water can be used for several months, but this requires that the filter has been kept clean and the water has been disinfected with pool chemicals. In our online store you will find several different options for maintaining the cleanliness of the pool water.
What kind of surface can a hot tub be installed on?
The installation base for the hot tub must be flat and load-bearing, so that the hot tub does not sink into the ground over time. We recommend that there is a compacted crushed stone bed under the hot tub. There are impregnated planks at the bottom of the hot tub on which the hot tub is installed. For example, concrete slabs 40 x 40 cm under the planks, so that there is a ventilation gap under the bottom of the hot tub. There must also be separate slabs under the stove, because the stove stands on its own feet next to the hot tub.
How to fill filter balls into a sand filter tank
Instructions at this link. When replacing filter balls, remember to turn off the pump, plug the inlet and close the tap during the replacement. Filter balls can be reused after washing them, and the balls can also be machine washed. Always wash without detergent. Otherwise, the installation of the balls during replacement is the same as during initial installation.
